Am I seriously that old?

My girlfriend asked me to a movie tonight – it needed to be after 9:00 so she could put her kids to bed. I’m exhausted but I haven’t spent much time with her and another girl is going I haven’t met yet so I really want to go. I agreed and when we decided to watch The Wedding Ringer staring the hilarious Kevin Hart, we found out it wasn’t going to start till 10:25.
That’s 25 minutes past my bed time. It’s Friday!!!!! I have no BED TIME!
So I’m going. I’m going, I’m gonna stay awake and I’m gonna like it – dammit.

When the hell did I get old? Maybe THIS is why I’m single – cause I love my early sleeps!

Tomorrow is going to be a sleep in day. Shhhhhh

Is it to early??

In September, when I was at the mall, I saw some Christmas items already placed out for sale.  The majority of the stores were prepared for Hallowe’en and Thanksgiving, but Christmas was starting to sprout its roots over Toronto. Even I threw up my nose in disgust!  I hadn’t even bought Simba’s Hallowe’en costume, let alone a nice warm Christmas sweater!

I never get ready for Christmas until after Remembrance Day, I was taught that it was disrespectful (though how I don’t know because really, I can respect soldiers under a twinkling Christmas tree!) however I wait.  Patiently I check off the days and after November 11th it’s no holds bar!

This year with my first house, I have a mantle and hence I have bought a garland to drape across it, some gold candles, a gold wreath for the door and I have also placed out all my Hallmark snowmen.  I have the few Christmas crafts up that I made as a child and this weekend my tree will go up and the rest of the house will be completed!

Some people thinks it’s to soon.  That December 1st is the first day that is acceptable to put up Christmas decorations.  If I were American I would agree because their Thanksgiving is the end of November.  Ours was October…why do I need to wait??  I like Christmas and it makes me happy.  Not a lot of things make me happy – truly heart warmingly happy, so I am going all out for Christmas this weekend!

Next weekend I will have started and completed my Christmas shopping with my sister-in-law, because we are doing our annual Black Friday trip and a week or so after that I will invite my oldest niece over to wrap presents and continue my dads tradition with her of Swiss Chalet and Christmas music!  It’s fun and fun = good!

My christmas cards have been signed and sealed for almost two weeks now, but I won’t mail them until the day I leave for Grove City, which means people will get them on December 1st.  I have over 40 cards to write out so I do it while I watch tv so I get them all done.  Also, I don’t give everyone the same card – I use different cards for different families as I buy a ton of cards after Christmas to save money.  I like them to be a bit more personal so some cards have special messages – my old stomping ground peeps all have a message this year because it’s my first Christmas not having it at my dads house, not living and waking up on Sedgemount.  This is hard, yet special for me.

Last Christmas was postponed due to Ice Storm Toronto 2013, so this year I am praying for NO snow.  I know, I know, I’m sorry.  I have to drive to my brother’s family’s house this year so I’d prefer no snow/ice to make the drive a little less chaotic – and wet – I hate wet dog smell and it’s the 18th of November and Simba has been out twice already with snow and he smells gross when he’s wet.  Just sayin’…

So if you are like some of my friends who have had their trees up and presents wrapped for weeks – good for you!  If you are like the other half who curse everyone whose thinking Christmas already – good for you too!  We can all do whatever we want and the good thing is, is that NO ONES opinion matters. This is a personal choice and I have made mine!

Have fun and love each other people!  That’s what this season is all about!

Don’t do anything half assed…

Who goes to Florida in August for four days! This girl, that’s who!

So as with all of my friend Kim’s crazy ideas, I jump in feet first because they are always fun and I never regret it (i.e Chicago wedding dress shopping, buying a cottage etc). When she asked if I wanted to go away with her and her four-year-old son Chase, I knew it would be just as much fun so I sent her my money and last Thursday we took off on a South West plane to Orlando via Baltimore. Surprisingly, even though I have never had a stopover before and we were with a child, it all went very smoothly and the flights were both good!

Our rental car experience, we thought had gone smoothly (more details on that later) and we drove to our hotel in Kissimmee Florida. Our hotel was nice, nothing fancy and we marveled at how large and extravagant the gift shops around our hotel were. Trip advisor gave us the name of a Texas Roadhouse restaurant that gave rave reviews so we headed there for dinner and I can see why they had great feedback! I got the Pulled Pork Dinner and it came with TWO sides (I had corn and applesauce) and a bun – for $9.99! The food was hot and flavorful and I left very satisfied (and feeling very full). Kim asked for the ribs which were meaty and also looked delicious! After that we carried our full stomachs back to the hotel and around 7:30 we got antsy…what to do…

lets do Cirque?

No.

Let’s do Medieval Times?

That was the plan…but halfway there, Kim got another big idea.

LETS DO DISNEY!

Now, people please understand, Disney was not on our to-do list in Orlando…but when in Rome…

So we turned the car around and drove to Disney having no idea what we’d do once there or even how late it stayed open. We knew the parade and fireworks would be happening so we took a chance.

When we arrived we talked to the lady at the parking entrance and she ended up letting us park for free (who says you can’t get something for free nowadays?). We took a shuttle to the train and the train to the park…seriously whoever built Disney did not take into consideration the ease of getting into this park. It was an adventure (and about 30 minutes) before we arrived AT Disney.

That’s when we were told the harsh reality – if you are there at the start of the day, or with only an hour left you pay the same price – $105!!!! WHAT THE F@!# I nearly fell over…the park was closing in two and a half hours and all we wanted to see was Cinderella’s castle and the fireworks show – Walt you should be ashamed of yourself…making millions off idiot tourists like us…shame shame Walt, shame shame!

Turns out, the Castle wasn’t that exciting, it didn’t meet my childhood visions or my girly imagination. Also, Chase hated the loudness of the parade so we kind of just walked aimlessly around Disney until the Fireworks started…then we stood in line for 6 hours (really 30 minutes) to meet Mickey Mouse and took the forever route back to our car.

Disney was by all means, a disappointment and a place that my future kids most likely will never experience because I am not going to spend that much money for them to be mesmerized by things that aren’t that mesmerizing.

The next day we went to Sea World and Aquatica and those impressed me. I liked the shows, the rides were cool, the kid’s park was fun and Aquatica on its own was a blast for those big and small. I also went on my first waterside ever and it was a BLAST. A short ride, but super fun…if not for the long lines I would have gone again and again! This was an amusement park that I would go to again!

Saturday we headed out for the drive to Winterhaven and went to every child’s dreamland – LEGO LAND FLORIDA. With all the walking we had been doing, I was over exhausted and my feet and ankles wanted to cry. Another thing – these parks have almost NO smoking areas and I was losing it! It was hot and I needed a break so I sent Kim and her son off to play and ride and I sat in the nice air-conditioned restaurant and relaxed (and then found said smoking section). The park itself was cute and I can completely see why kids are enamored with it, but it wasn’t my cup of tea, so I’m happy that I struck out on my own to relax a little bit.

Sunday we did exactly what I consider a vacation – we drove to Clearwater Beach Florida and spent a few hours on the beach and in the ocean! Clearwater is BEAUTIFUL and I will 100% be back there to enjoy more of its white sand beaches and warm, soothing ocean. Unfortunately we had to get to the airport so we made the two-hour drive, only to realize as we dropped off our rental that they had only listed us as needing the car for two days and not for four days so we were overcharged for the two days late return. There was no point in arguing or complaining, at this point we agreed to eat the charge and be more careful next time. It was time to go home and both of us wanted to be in the air, taking off.

The vacation was amazing as always with one of my bff’s and her adorable kiddo and I am so glad I had this experience – but the next vacation *which should be February* – will be on a beach with all you can drink daiquiri’s and food included…I cannot wait!

Project Life: My life…your life…everyones life

At my work, a colleague – I would call her a friend – has really opened my eyes to creativity and change.  She is the one who has me on Pinterest and has me couponing and now she has introduced me to something else…

Project Life

One photo will be taken every day for a memory book, documenting a year in my life.  Now why would I need to do this?  I take photos all the time right?  Those who follow me on Facebook or Instagram know this!  In fact just a year and a half into having my Iphone I need to transfer my photos onto the computer because I can’t hold anymore and I have used up so much space I can’t download the new ios7 (or is 8 or 9 now? Who knows…)? The point is, I love taking photos!  I love capturing moments.  I’m praying 2014 will be a much better year than 2013 was (though in 2010 I said “how can it get worse” and in 2011 my grandma passed away – I got the picture, it can always get worse!)

So whether it is good or bad, I am going to document the crap out of my life in 2014.  I am going to write notes and photograph my surroundings.  I will update you on here of course, of how it’s going and I will turn to you all who read this (and my friend as mentioned above) to give me advice of what to photograph, what to document (besides the obvious – dog, friends, family, good food) and look for feedback to make it a great scrapbook and an even better memory book for the year I’m hoping and praying my whole life changes.

Here are some examples from Pinterest if you have no idea what I am talking about:

So those are some examples, mine will look similar with my own flair…I am excited.  At the very least, I have something I know I can look forward to in 2014, while nothing else seems to be very certain?!

I can plan a babyshower dammit!

Supposedly some women have been telling me you cannot plan your own baby shower when it’s time.

Insert: yes I am WELL aware I am not even pregnant yet

However, I feel like as it is my baby shower and I only will get one most likely – I should be able to have things my way, thus I can plan it, or at least help plan it!! I am not going to host it – that would be ridiculous.  That’s my sister, mom, bff’s or co-workers job.

My friend and colleague, Sarah, introduced me to this amazing website last week – you may have heard of it…pinterest???  LOL…Yes I am also WELL aware that Pinterest is not new and most women have not only heard of this site – they are on it, pinning things left, right and center!

I have been on pinterest everyday since, pinning to boards for different bedrooms in my non-existent house, christmas decorations for the year I eventually want to get really into the holiday’s again and baby shower ideas, games, themes etc for the one day I, as a mom-to-be, gets celebrated!

Fun Baby Shower Game The Original Pin the by PintheSpermontheEgg

Doesn’t this game look like fun – pin the sperm on the egg – and it’s totally appropriate given how I am chosing to get preggo!

Pink or white chocolate w/ sprinkles! Or milk chocolate w/ pink sprinkles.

These just look delicious and I wanted them to eat now – however they will work at a shower too – although blue icing if Koko is a boy!

Expecting Parents! Let's Polish Up for Our Children. Register on Our Official Site. #let'sInvest www.stateoftheblackparent.org Nail Polish Baby Shower Favors - what a cute (and. fashionable) idea! Easy to color coordinate, too.Baby shower. I love this idea. I could see Jenna doing this ;)

What cute favours!!

Baby Shower Game Ideas (14 Pics)

A creative game that requires no effort – just my style!!

What a creative way to serve drinks to your baby shower guests! Instead of regular cups, use baby bottles & just remove the rubber tops! What's great about this idea is that the mother-to-be can use the bottles after the little one actually arrives!

Watching my friends drink from baby bottles will have me in stitches and that day it is all about me and Koko – if I am happy, Koko is happy!  See, I need to be involved in the planning!!

What’s so hard to understand??
